Jesus mentions the "elect" in Matthew 24:22-24 where he says "..but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened" and he talks about the false prophets who shall "deceive the very elect." He also states in Luke 18:7 "God shall avenge his own elect." Other words often used to describe people whom are in God's plans to bring salvation to His people are chosen, predestinate, foreordain and called. If you could substitute "elect" with "chosen" in the passages in Matthew 24:22-24, it would be that much more clear to the reader.
