That would depend on which god you refer to.
It is God who told us to worship on the sabbath. He created the universe in 6 days and rested on the seventh day. This seventh day is called the sabbath. He did not rest because he was tired but as an example of what we need to do.
Exodus 31:17for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.Genesis 2:2By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his workQuran says:Surah 50:38We created the heavens and the earth and all between them in Six Days, nor did any sense of weariness touch Us.
Actually, Genesis 2:1-3 mentions the seventh creative day. After creating for six days, God rested on the seventh. It was the original 'sabbath', God's Rest. This seventh creative day gives us some insight into how long the preceding six may have been since Paul indicated that it was still in progress in his day( Hebrews 4:1-11) and still has not ended in ours.
Mostly through observation of wise men. They realised that the sun repeated its course every 360 days (later refined as 365.25 days, of course) or so, and that gave us years... a cycle of the moon gave us months, and a period of light and darkness gave us days. Only the week was defined by man and by man alone - when God created the world, it was done in six stages (described in the Bible as 'days') and 'on the seventh day, God rested'. From that, men would take a day of rest every seventh day ( and those of a faithful disposition would 'keep it holy').
No, on the seventh day He rested! Sounds like a trap question. Agree with above answer. He created nothing on the seventh-day. But blessed the seventh day and hallowed it. Commanding us to rest and keep it holy!
God is the only god who made the waters and land and animals and us in six days and he rested on the seventh day! Answer 2Yes, that is right, we are all good Christians. But that was not the question. The question is about ancient beliefs.
Jewish answer: God could have created everything in an instant. He chose to do it over a period of days in order to teach us the importance of this world (Mishna, Avot ch.5). According to Jewish mysticism, God used six days because He created this world as a sort of projection of spiritual energy through the closest of the upper worlds, which are seven in number (the seventh representing the Sabbath of rest).
Yes we do as it is in the Bible God did create the world and things in it including us .And on the Seventh day he rested, so we work and go to school for 6days a week and on Saturday we rest and thank God for keeping us alive during the week.
God wants us in church because it is his house and we learn all about him there
The scriptures tell us "And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made." The seventh day which we call Sunday, was designated by the church, and accepted by government to be a day of rest from our labours. It was to be a day in which we could remember all that God has, and still does for us. It is unfortunate that mankind has forgotten this, and now uses the day for his own pleasure.
God requires nothing from us, and nothing we do can curry favor from him.
