I tend to believe that Jacob has testing his son Joseph as yo whether he brought up his two sons Ephraim and Menashe properly. When Menashe the firstborn did not protest his grandfather's laying of his left hand upon his head Jacob was relieved that there was no sibling rivalry between his grandsons.
Joseph's way of educating his children was an improvement on the way the patriarchs had raised their children: There was animosity between Abraham's two sons, as well Issac's two sons could not live in peace one with another, Jacob's ten sons hated the young favorite, Joseph enough to wish to kill him, but luckily only sold him into slavery.
Therefor Jacob was satisfied with Joseph's way of raising his two sons where no jealousy at all prevailed between them
Another Answer:
Jacob simply fulfilled God's 'birthright' blessing upon the two children according to God's Will. The Scripture does not speak to any problems between the two boys at this stage of events.
Ephraim, the younger, would be first to develop into a great and powerful company or 'commonwealth' of Nations. Afterwards, his older brother Manasseh would develop into the single greatest Nation the World has ever known.
Israel (Jacob) has made both boys his very own sons as can be read in Genesis 48. God had chosen Ephraim to be His firstborn - leader of the tribes of Israel:
Jeremiah 31:9New International Version (NIV)9 They will come with weeping;
they will pray as I bring them back.
I will lead them beside streams of water
on a level path where they will not stumble,
because I am Israel's father,
and Ephraim is my firstborn son.
Jacob Blessing the Sons of Joseph was created in 1656.
Jacob stole his brother Esau's birthright and blessing. The birthright included a double portion of their father's inheritance, while the blessing was a verbal declaration of prosperity and leadership within the family.
Esau was out hunting game to prepare a meal for his father, Isaac, fulfilling his father's request before giving him his blessing. Meanwhile, Jacob, at his mother Rebekah's urging, deceived Isaac by pretending to be Esau and received the blessing intended for the older brother.
Esau wanted to kill him:-Gen:27:41: And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.
Esau desired to kill Jacob because he was angry that Jacob had tricked him into giving up his birthright and receiving the blessing from their father, Isaac. Esau felt betrayed and sought revenge against his brother.
Jacob cheated his brother Esau.
Only one; and that was Isaac's chief blessing, which he had intended for Esau. The birthright itself was not stolen, since Esau willingly sold it to Jacob. The fact that he sold it for a bowl of food shows how little he valued it (Genesis 25:31-34). Concerning Jacob's stealing the blessing:Jacob posed as Esau in Isaac's presence (Genesis ch.27) and received the blessing that was meant for Esau. Jacob is not to blame, for the following reasons:1) The word of God had informed their mother Rebecca that Jacob the younger son would be the favored one; the one to prevail (Genesis 25:23). Acting on this, she commanded Jacob to pose as Esau and seek Isaac's blessing (27:6-10), despite his trepidation (27:11).2) By willingly having sold Jacob his birthright, Esau relinquished any claim to Isaac's chief blessing which would go to the firstborn. The fact that he later complained (27:36) doesn't change this; and he did receive a blessing of his own (27:39).3) Isaac had not been informed that Esau sold Jacob the birthright. When he was later told this, he understood why God had allowed Jacob to get the chief blessing, and he continued blessing Jacob on later occasions (ch.28), never censuring him. Moreover, God Himself gives Israel (Jacob) the title of firstborn (Exodus 4:22 with Rashi commentary).
The person who encouraged Jacob to deceive Isaac was his Mother .Rebekah.
Rebekah sends Jacob to her brother Laban's house in Haran to keep him safe from his brother Esau, who is angry with Jacob for receiving their father's blessing.
In his old age Isaac was visually impared and so unknowingly gave his blessing to the younger son Jacob rather than the Eldest son Esau, because Jacob and his mother divised a plan to trick Isaac into giving Jacob the blessing. When Esau came back from hunting an realised what had happened he beg his father if there was any blessing left for him but there wasnt, so Esau planned to kill his brother Jacob for stealing his blessing. When the mother (Rebekah) learned of this she sent Jacob away to another land where his uncle lived. For details on as to how Isaac was tricked etc read Genesis Chapter 27. Hope the above answered your question:-)
Rebekah, Jacob and Esau's mother, wanted Jacob to receive the blessing from Issac before Issac died. She overheard Issac telling Esau to go hunt wild game and prepare his favorite meal. Rebekah told Jacob to go out and hunt game, and prepare a meal for his father. Jacob agreed and set out to hunt. When he returned, Rebekah cooked the meal, and Jacob brought it to his father. Jacob was the eldest, so he had to cover his skin in goats fur to feel like Jacob, in the event that Issac wanted to touch him (he was blind) While bringing the meal, He convinced Issac that he was Esau by the smell of Esau's clothes that Rebekah given him, and the fur on his hands. In return for the food, Issac blessed Jacob. Esau soon returned, and Issac realized what he had done.
Genesis 27:36 And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?
