The Catholic Church considers Christ as Its founder and Pentecost as the date of its beginning. This took place in Palestine, a region under the control of the Roman Empire. Peter, recognized by the Catholic Church as their earthly head, had his first see in Antioch, again a city in Roman territory but which now falls in Turkey. Later Peter established his see in Rome where he died, which is in modern Italy. The distinct doctrine of Catholicism was set by bishops in Rome, sometime later, who then based their new church in Rome.
The Catholic religion is nothing more nor less than Judaism fulfilled. In other words, Catholicism comes from the Jews who realized that Jesus was the promised Messiah of God, took that message and went out and converted the world. Catholicism thus was founded in the Hebrew culture.
The Roman Catholic Religion originally came from Judaism. All the founding members of the Church were Jews. Our Blessed Lord, Himself, was a Jew, and His apostles were all Jews. The "Roman" part of it comes from the fact that the first Pope, Peter, went to Rome, which was the center of the civilized world at that point in history, and the Church has spread out from Rome to cover the world. "Roman" is an epithet first commonly used in England after the protestant revolt to describe the Catholic Church. It is never used by the Catholic Church.
