Lamentations cover a variety of emotions from anger to emptiness to despair. This centers around the community's sense of loss or grief stemming from God's action or absence of a desired action. The psalms of lamentation are very raw and honest, but they are never just empty cynicism or hopelessness. They always contain a defiant hope in God's ultimate goodness, even in the simple fact that they are prayers to God and not just complaints behind his back.
