Put very briefly:
1. As an adopted child of Pharaoh's daugher, and with an upbringing in the Pharaoh's palace, he would have had a very privileged upbringing - and would have been educated to a high standard.
2. As a Jew in exile, he was all too aware of the plight of his fellow countrymen and women - as they were treated as no more than slaves by subsequent Pharaohs.
3. As an adult, he was all to aware of social injustice, on one occassion killing with a blow a guard who was mistreating a Jew. This implies that he was well built and strong. By all accounts he was quite an attractive man
4. As a result he became a refugee.
5. When thinks quietened down. he returned and became the Jewish leader - he was charismatic and had great powers of leadership - and he became a Godly (despite his previous crime) man. Although as a leader, he was rather reluctant as he thought others more worthy. However, walking with God, he wished to obey his calling.
6. Sadly he complained of a 'slowness of speech' which we now take today to be a bad stammer, and so his brother aaron often acted as spokesman.
7. He was a determined man - so much so that he would not take 'no' as an answer when he bid the Pharaoh to let is people free.
8. There was a sense of frustration whilst Moses was ading the people out of Egypt. Despite his leadership in the ways of God, the people continued to rebel against God, much to Moses' anger.
9. Therefore he had a hard life after his initial affluent upbringing, and, although regarded as a great leader and prophet by the people was always self-effacing. Sadly he died before he could lead his pple in to the 'Promised Land' - that privilege being taken by his successor, Joshua.
During Jesus' lifetime, Jerusalem was under Roman control. Soldiers kept order. There were Jewish leaders called Pharisees and Sadducees. The Jews would worship at temples and follow the ten commandments that had been set up by Moses many years ago. When they sinned they had to have animals sacrificed for them at the temple to atone for their sins. There was a Roman emperor who ruled them, but mostly left religious affairs to the Jewish leaders. They wore tunics and sandals, and were often very dirty from the dust of the road. Girls were married as young as 13. (Jesus' mother, Mary, probably had him around 13-16) They didn't have divorce, but if you were caught committing adultery (essentially 'cheating' on your spouse), women could be stoned. Criminals often had cruel punishments, sometimes even as severe as crucifixion. It was a horrible method of killing a person, which involved nailing them to a wooden cross and leaving them up there for days until they eventually suffocated. Life was definitely not easy. That's why people looked for a messiah who would be a king coming to rescue them from the Romans. But they didn't realize Jesus came to set up an eternal kingdom in heaven. He actually lived a simple life to begin with, being the son of a carpenter. At one point he fasted in the desert for 40 days. He gathered twelve main disciples, but many more followers as he went from place to place preaching and performing miracles. He preached a more tolerant, loving way of life than was previously told to them. He was crucified around the age of 32 (as certain historians speculate) and according to the Bible was raised to life again after three days, and walked on this Earth for around 40 days before ascending into heaven.
While Moses was Judaism's greatest prophet, we are told that he was just a normal man. In fact, he was painfully shy and often his brother Aaron, spoke on his behalf. Moses also had a temper - remember that because he struck the rock in anger, instead of waiting for it to provide water as G-d promised it would, he was forbidden from entering the promised land. Judaism is not about 'perfect' people. All of the key Jewish figures were normal, fallible, mortals. Even Moses.
AnswerThe story of Moses is to be found in the books of Exodus, Numbers, Leviticus and Deuteronomy. However, if you are after verifiable facts about Moses, there is nothing outside the Bible. There is no extrabiblical mention of Moses or of the events with which he is associated in the Bible, and no archaeological evidence for either Moses or those events. In fact, many scholars doubt whether Moses really existed or the events really occurred.
