Jews say that Abraham is the father of their faith and the genetic ancestor of their people.
Muslims say that Abraham was a prophet in their faith (though not the founder) and the genetic ancestor of the Arab people (who are now mostly Muslim), but not necessarily all Muslims.
Christians consider Abraham to be their spiritual ancestor but do not consider him to have founded Christianity or to be the actual ancestor to most Christians.
Abraham
Abraham was the father of Ishmael by Hagar, the Egyptian servant of Sarah. Sarah gave Hagar as a wife to Abraham because she herself was barren. Later, Sarah gave birth to Isaac and eventually Hagar and Ishmael were sent away. Incidentally, many Muslims believe that Ishmael (or Ismail) was the son Abraham was ordered to offer up to God in sacrifice although this isn't specified in the Qur'an.
Ishmael was the son born to Hager , Abraham's slave, and as Abraham is the father of the Jewish nation, and Jesus was a Jew, he is related.
Abraham was the father of Ishmael, to whom Arabs trace their ancestry.
The Arab people and tribes are descendents of Abraham, not all Muslims are decedents of Ishmael, only the Arab people are the descendants of Ishmael who was one of the sons of Abraham, the other being Isaac. Ishmael is also known as the father of Arabs.
Abraham (known as Abram earlier in his life) was the father of Isaac and Ishmael. Isaac was born from his wife, Sarah, and Ishmael was born from his concubine, Hagar. Ishmael was 14 years older than Isaac.
Isaac was the father of the Jews. Ishmael was the father of the Arabs. Both Ishmael and Isaac were sons of Abraham. See Genesis ch.16, 17 and 21.
Prophet Abraham had two sons: Ishmael, father of the Arabs (Canaan's) Isaac, father of Israelite's, who inhabited the northern part of Arabian peninsula.
Abraham was the "father" of the three major religions because it was from his "seed" that the Founders of each religion descended: Abraham & Sarah begat Isaac from whose line came Moses & Jesus (Judaism & Christianity) Abraham & Hagar begat Ishmael from whose line came Muhammad (Islam)
There are several people of that name, but you're probably thinking of Ishmael, the son of Abraham. In Jewish tradition, Ishmael was Abraham's first son but Isaac, his second, was his favorite. In Muslim tradition, Ishmael was the favorite son. This is understandable if you know that Isaac is considered the father of the Hebrews (Jews) and Ishmael the father of the Arabs. _______________________________________________ Both Abraham's sons; Ismael and Isaac; are favorite to prophet Abraham 9peace be upon them all). However, Ismael was the oldest son and helped prophet Abraham in rebuilding Kaaba. Ismael is grandfather of Muslims (not Arabs) as well as Isaac is the grandfather of Jews
The Bible mentions Abraham, Nahor and Haran. (Genesis 11:27, 28) . . .Te′rah became father to A′bram, Na′hor and Ha′ran; and Ha′ran became father to Lot. 28 Later Ha′ran died while in company with Te′rah his father in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chal·de′ans.
Islam believes in all the prophets of the other two major religions and believe that ishmael and his father Abraham built the holy khaba and that ishmael was the next prophet after Abraham.
