Why is the term gospel applied to the account of jesus christ?
"Gospel" simply means "glad tidings" or "good news."And Jesus, Himself, declared that the "message" He preached was "gospel, or good news." His message began to be preached in Galilee [Acts 10:37]:"...Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospelof the Kingdom of God, and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel." (Mark 1:14-15)The "good news" which Jesus preached stems from the earliest inspired scriptures:"...I will give Jerusalem One that bringeth good tidings." (Isa.41:27)"How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation..." (Isa.52:7)"And how shall they preach, except they be sent? As it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!" (Rom.10:15)"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me; because the Lord hath anointed Me to preach good tidings unto the meek..." (Isa.61:1)"...when He opened the book, He found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He hath anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor..." (Luke 4:17-18).
