Before. He was crucified on a Friday, and the Sabbath is Saturday.

John 19:31 Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jews did not want the bodies left on the crosses during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down.

A:We must remember that in the Jewish calendar, days begin at sundown, not at midnight. So the Passover begins in the evening of one day (as we understand days), with the Passover feast and then continues through the next day until sundown.

In the synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke), Jesus celebrated the Passover feast in what is now known as the Last Supper, and was crucified the next day, which is still the day of the Passover.

John's Gospel, for theological reasons, changes the date and time of the crucifixion. There is therefore no Last Supper in this account, just a reference to the evening meal, after which Jesus washed the feet of the apostles. Friday, the day of the crucifixion, was the day of preparation, so the the Passover feast was to follow that evening after dark. It was not yet Passover when Jesus was crucified and died.

Why does Good Friday fall on a Friday?

Good Friday is the day on which we remember Jesus being crucified. In the Gospels, Jesus was crucified on the day before the Sabbath (which was Saturday) to rise on the third day afterwards (on the Sunday). Therefore as Jesus was crucified on a Friday, the day on which we remember the crucifixion, is always a Friday.
