he waz born in a barn
Another AnswerActually Jesus was born in a Succah, a "tabernacle" as it is recorded. The Greek word is the Hebrew word for Succah, a temporary structure erected for shelter. The wonderful English scholars who translated the English version had no referent for this word that anyone would understand, so they came as close as possible in their culture. In the Old Testament, God commanded the Jewish people to live in "booths" for seven days..the Feast of Tabernacles. This is recorded in Leviticus 23. Over the centuries the translations varied, and the original meaning was lost. When the English translation was made, the Greek word meant a structure to house animals. This is where the confusion lies. Jesus was born in a Succah, a "booth". It never occurred to the translators that the two words were related, but they are.
The concept is further reinforced in St. John where it says, "and He was pleased to 'dwell' with us...". The word in the Greek is the exact same word used to describe the Succah, Tabernacle, or Booth.

The gospels provide two views on this.
In Luke's Gospel, Mary and Joseph travelled from Nazareth to Bethlehem, where they were unable to find a room in the inn, so Jesus was born in a stable and laid in a manger. This is the scene so beloved for Nativity plays around the world.
In Matthew's Gospel, Bethlehem was the home town of Mary and Joseph, so they had no need to travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem and no need to stay in a stable. We can expect that the young couple occupied a house in Bethlehem, and Matthew 2:11 does say that the wise men found Jesus in a house. Although it is usual to attempt to harmonise the two accounts, if we recognise their independence we can say that in this account Jesus was born in a house.
As an adult, Jesus had no house of his own, but was itinerant.
