There are various reasons given in The Bible for suffering eg:
man's sin - Gen 3:16-17
God's discipline/training of man - Heb 12:5-11
punish for sin. - 1 Sam 12:9-12
teach dependence on God - Deut 8:2-6
purify our faith. - 1 Peter 1:5-8
produce strong character. - James 1:2-3
The classic example is the story of Job. Job lost his children, his possessions and underwent terrible physical suffering. But God said there is none as righteous as Job in all the world. So this suffering was not because of some sin of Job's the purpose of the suffering was to show that his faith was genuine
We can conclude these sorts of experiences are not abnormal Christian experiences.
The important thing about any suffering or hardship a christian may go through is what is your response?
Job's wife counseled him to curse God and die (Job 2:9). Job said to his wife shouldn't we accept good and bad from God? (Job 2:10). Job's attitude was: even if God kills me I will still trust in Him (Job 13:15).
So yes sometimes suffering/hard times are a result of sin in a Christian's life and sometimes God uses such things to improve our walk with Him and to refine our character.
I dont know. they are against punishment.
Christ, the Son Of God, was Crucified for all our sins.
Belief in Jesus Christ and acceptance of his sacrifice for our sins are what excuses us from eternal punishment. Christians believe that through faith in Jesus, our sins are forgiven and we are granted eternal life.
NO, God sent his son down to earth to die for our sins, and act as a substitute for our place in punishment. God promises eternal life with him if we believe and accept that Jesus the Son of God died for our sins.
"Come drink from the cup of destruction!" "I am the punishment of God...If you had not committed great sins, he would not have sent a punishment like me upon you."
Indulgences can be earned by doing certain spiritual exercises, such as pilgrimages, to lessen the punishment for sins.
Yes he did. The punishment of sin is death, because your disobeying God. But Jesus died to take the punishment from your and died instead of you. Jesus loves you!
this answers depends on what religion. in Christianity suffering is an oppertunity to become closer to God. christains also offer up their suffering to shorten the time in purgatory for those souls in it. in some faiths suffering is believed to be punishment from God or gods for sinnful acts.
It was perceived as a punishment from God for the sins of humanity. People called Flagalents whipped themselves in order to gain God's approval and so spare them from the plague
Because he loves you! and he died on a cross for you. He took the ultimate punishment for your sins that you do daily. So if you want to be saved from your sins and the eternity in Hell when you die then repent of your sins (ask God for forgiveness and TURN AWAY FROM YOUR SINS! DONT GO BACK TO THEM) and put your trust in Jesus Christ. P.S its called the good news!(: tell it to your friends!
Indulgences
All kinds of things. Tell God, in your own words, that you want to be near to Him after you die. Ask God to please forgive your sins (if there were any). Ask God to consider your suffering, and your early death, as an atonement for any sins. Ask God to please watch over those whom you love. Ask God to please extend your life and minimalize your suffering. Ask God to give you the strength and understanding not to see Him as cruel. These are a few examples.
