No, the Buddha that we talk about today - Shakyamuni Buddha - was not the first Buddha according to the Pali Canon (The Buddhist Scriptures).
Depending on what source you look at, it is said there were anywhere between six and 28 earlier Buddha's. One of the most important Buddha's was Prince Siddhartha Guatama

We can all become enlightened by following the Eightfold path as stated by the Buddha and adopting it as our way of life. We cannot become enlightened like the Buddha as he deduced the Eightfold Path initially(from first principles) without guidance.
Buddha was regarded as significant because he was the first person to achieve enlightenment. Tosdy we have his example and the exampled of many other enlightened beings to guide us. He, however, did this on his own.
The number of people who are fully realized enlightened Buddhas is unknown. Since we all have a Buddha spirit in us, we can all become fully enlightened. Therefore the number of potential Buddhas is the same as the number of people alive.
Buddhism has no god, they just believe in Buddha as the first man to become enlightened. Buddha himself indicated that deities have no role in achieving enlightenment.
The Buddhist holy place is called Here. Lumbini where Buddha was born, Bodh Gaya where Buddha became enlightened, Sarnath where Buddha gave his first sermon, and Kushinagar where Buddha died are the most important holy places for buddhists.

An Arahant (or Arahat as it is more commonly known) is someone who has become enlightened, but through the help of someone else, i.e. they could not achieve enlightenment on their own. For example, after the Buddha first became enlightened, he taught the five ascetics that followed him about how he himself had become enlightened, and after hearing these teachings, the ascetics in turn became enlightened, but they had not done so through their own meditation etc.
