giving of your time
A tithe was a payment made to clergy or religious institutions. It usually consisted of a tenth of one's income and was often obligatory for members of certain religious denominations.
The Israelites were commanded to give a tithe to the poor and a separate tithe to the Levites. The Levites were allotted no portion of the land itself, so they partook of the tithe that was given (Numbers ch.18). They served as Torah-scholars (Deuteronomy ch.33) and assisted in the Temple (but did not offer up the sacrifices, which was done only by the kohanim). The newborn of flocks were also tithed (Leviticus ch.27). Today, in the absence of the Holy Temple, Jews tithe their income for the poor.
Synonyms for charitable giving are donate, contribute, or tithe (specifically 10%).

Giving Alms to the poor is one of the five pillars of Islam.
God gave very clear instructions in His Word how to figure His tithe. Leviticus 27:30-33, Numbers 18: The First Tithe - a tenth of crops and animals and commanded to take the tithe to the Levites. Deuteronomy 14:22-27: The Second Tithe aka The Festival Tithe - a tenth of crops, plus add to that the firstborn animals, and take for the yearly feast. Deuteronomy 14:28-29: The Third Tithe aka The Three-Year Tithe aka The Poor Tithe - a tenth of crops, kept at home, and invite the Levites, widows, orphans, stranger to eat. IF God wanted Christians to tithe on their income, He would have said so, and would have given specific instructions. God would not tell us to do something but not tell us how to do it.
Giving to the poor and needy in Arabic is called "zakat" or "sadaqah".
