The successors to the Prophet Muhammad were called the Caliphs. Muhammad's father-in-law, Abu Bakr, was elected as the first Caliph. Then came Umar and Uthman. The fourth Caliph was Ali ibn Abi Talib, the cousin and son-in-law to Muhammad, whom the Shi'ites believe to have nominated Ali to be his immediate successor. Disagreement over the succession became a major cause of friction and led to the division of Islam along Sunni and Shia lines.

he was dedicated and Muhammad liked that about him when Muhammad was alive.Answer B (shia view)he claimed Abubakr left a will letter and appointed him as Caliph. but there are some references saying Uthman himself wrote that letter and when Abubakr died Uthman used his stamp to attribute that letter to Abubakr. Anyway he was not selected by God or prophet or people or any meeting or shura. and he was selected by Abubakr.

The Muslim view considers that the Qur'an began with divine revelation to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in 610. All of these revelations were either memorized or written down during the lifetime of prophet Muhammad. These revelations were subsequently collected and were standardized in today's version by the caliph Uthman. 653/654. The text was later given vowel pointing and punctuation in the seventh and eighth centuries.
