A number of times it also indicates that many were afraid of the Pharisees who had declared that anyone who believed in Him would be put out of the synagogue. Yet, in all this it is clear that He enjoyed, at least at times a high degree of popularity and interest, since there always seemed to be crowds that followed Him. In places we are told that people were seeking Him for healing and that many miracles were done by Him. In relation to His popularity, it is recorded in several places that his is one of the reasons the leaders sought to kill Him -they were jealous of His popularity. Pilate was apparently aware that 'they had delivered Him for envy.'
