While there is a question to the exact location of Golgotha, some scholars believe it was .5 miles. It is also a question ar to the location of Jesus start on the journey to Calvary.
The difficulty, however, was not only the distance, but the weight of the horizontal cross beam (Patibulum) of about 125 lbs. being carried by Christ, after he had been mercilessly beaten with a whip embedded with shards of metal, bone, or pottery. Much blood was lost, besides the trauma of flesh severely torn, therefore it was natural to faint under the load.
