On the sermon on the mount, Jesus preached updates from the law of moses. He wasn't changing them, he was just trying to make them better and take them further. For example, one of the laws of moses was DO NOT MURDER but Jesus said EVEN THINKING ABOUT HARMING OR KILLING ANOTHER MAKES YOU EQUALLY AS GUILTY.
