Wherever we live, we are part of a diverse nation. Some of us are Christians, some follow other religions and some are agnostic or atheist. Naturally, Christianity affects each group differently.

Even among Christians, the faith affects them differently according to the strength of individual faith and whether they are, for example, Catholics, Protestants, Mormons or Christian fundamentalists. In Europe, only a very small proportion of Christians even attend church regularly, and church pronouncements are quite generally ignored in daily life.

Christianity possibly has its greatest effect on others when Christians seek to impose their beliefs on them through the political system. Some Christians believe that their own moral standards should be applied to all, simply because they believe that only their own religious views are based on truth. Other moral standards may be equally valid but if they are non-Christian, or at least perceived as non-Christian, then Christian moral standards should prevail. Similarly, we find some Christians demanding that Christian prayers or scriptures should take place in our schools and other public places.
