Believe in God (the Father), Jesus Christ (the Son) and the Holy Spirit. I guess you could also go to a local church and get baptized, but I don't think that's a must, as long as you believe in those mentioned above.
First, show them that Catholics love the Lord Jesus.
Try to clear up any misconceptions they might have about Catholicism.
Show them evidence for Catholicism in The Bible and in the Church Fathers.
Most importantly, pray for them!
The only real difference between Catholicism and Protestantism is the authority of the Pope. Other denominations have similar if not identical ideas on Christianity as Catholics but they just don't think that the Pope is the holiest person on the planet.
There's no such thing as "the" Protestant church. Each sect (and potentially each individual church) will have its own procedure. The easiest thing to do would be to talk to the pastor of the particular church you want to attend; he'll be able to tell you what you need to do to become a member of that church.
Typically, you'll probably be asked to attend a membership class and sign a paper saying that even after the class you still want to join. The application will probably have to be approved by someone (perhaps the church's governing body of elders), but that's typically pretty much automatic unless there's something really strange going on.
