The apostles were Jesus' followers. They not only believed what he said, but they tried to act on it (live righteously.) When Jesus died for human sin and then rose again, they spread the mesage of salvation through faith, despite persecution from non-believers.
We can learn things from the sufferings of Christ because His sufferings is not only applicable in His time but also today. It serves as an example to follow if we are in such situation.
