How did jesus prepare the apostles?

Christ prepared his apostles in several ways:

1. He provided a perfect example for them to follow
2. He taught them the Gospel
3. He conferred the priesthood on them
4. He assigned them work to perform - teaching the Gospel to other people and using their priesthood power to bless them
5. He promised them the Holy Ghost would come to continue to teach, guide, and strengthen them once he ascended into heaven.
