The Star of David is simply the Royal Emblem or Coat of Arms chosen personally by King David to be his symbol as well as all his descendants- the premier icon for the Royal House of David. Since you mention 'eternal life' as it relates to David and his symbol, I'm guessing you might actually be referring to the eternal covenant between God and David (and also concerning the fate of his family line- namely the House of David). The promise made by God to David (and passed on via God's prophet Nathan) is quite extraordinary. The Bible states the following:
Your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me; your throne shall be established forever. In accordance with all these words and with all this vision, Nathan spoke to David.
- 2 Samuel 7:16-17
In a sense, this passage does appear to be about eternal life, but it seems to allude more to the spiritual immortality of David's soul, rather than God giving King David a physical body which never grows old or dies.
