Hinduism is not polytheistic there is one god Brahman who appears in different forms as other gods and some people like to pray to one of the forms since it might be known for some quality which each form possesses.
It is written that there are " 33 KOTI" god in Hindu but KOTI has 2 meaning i.e Core and Type So still it is unsolved. But they mostly pray three of them
Bhrama = he had created the world.
Vishnu = he is who provide life.
Mahesh = he provide security on Earth.
Hindus do not have just one God but hundreds of Gods and Goddesses. So, it depends on which God or Goddess you have in mind. Generally, Gods and Goddesses are depicted as having four arms, that is to differentiate between Gods/Goddesses and humans. They can certainly have more arms and more than one head.
For example, The creator God Brahma looked in five directions at his birth to know his environment. He, therefore, was depicted having five heads. Mythology says that Kartikeya, was raised by six women (Krittikas, asterism of Pleidas, or the cutting women), so he is depicted having six heads. The association of Kartikeya and Krittikas has an astronomical reason. Some 4,500 years ago, Aryans changed the beginning of their year because of precession of equinox. It was necessitated to bring the seasons back in line with the months. I think, Kartikeya was visualized at that time. Prior to Pleidas, the Aryan year began with the asterism of Orion.
The other such cases may have had similar (natural) reasons. Gods and Goddesses have their own iconography. So they hold various things in their hands.
the hindus believe in many gods (polytheistic). Please, just hear me out below, won't take long.
Opinion: 100% wrong, there is one God, It is written: "'As surely as I live,' says the Lord, 'every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to God" --Romans 14:11. Please we (Christians) only want the best for you, if you don't accept, you don't understand the mistake you are making but we are not here to critisize. Try to wrap your mind around eternity, forever, infinity, (impossible with the human mind), the result of your decisions here on earth will effect you for that long. Please, see a pastor or someone you might know that is a Christian or even read The Bible a little, just a verse, it is not as bad as you might think. Here is a good one to start out with--
Jeremiah 29:11 --- For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
