Catholic AnswerIn a certain sense, one could understand the Catholic Church's whole mission as that of denouncing Satan, certainly not denying his existence. Satan was the greatest of the angels created by God. His sin, we think of pride, "Non serviam" got him and his fellow sinners thrown out of heaven. God, in His Infinite Wisdom, has allowed Satan a certain influence in the world, and He established the Catholic Church with the authority and the power to overcome the demons. This begins right with Baptism, before the actual Baptism, the priest (always before and optionally with the new rite) performs an minor exorcism on the person to be baptized. There are specific exorcisms for casting out the demons, but the most effective exorcism and, for that matter, the most effective guard against demonic influence is regular fruitful reception of the sacrament of Confession, and frequent worthy Communions.
