I personally believe that they are. I see spells, prayers, wishes and etc. as the same. You set out a goal and you channel your energies into that goal and send it forth in to the universe for the powers that be to hear it and hopefully bring your spell/prayer/wish to fruition.

A wish is just that, a wish. For most people, wishing is just an act of optimism.
For those of us who believe in magic, we understand the very act of wishing can be the beginning of a magical act. There is, however, more needed to bring about the manifestation of that wish.
