It's very difficult for people to understand and accept this, but the approximate value of any set of encyclopedias more than a year old is effectively zero. Public libraries often have encyclopedias donated to them, and usually wind up selling them at library sales for a few bucks for a complete set... if they don't just recycle them.

The value of a 1953 set of Compton's encyclopedias can vary depending on factors such as condition, completeness, and demand from collectors. Generally, a complete set in good condition may be worth around $50 to $100. However, for a more accurate estimation, it is recommended to check recent sales of similar sets on platforms like eBay or consult with antique book dealers.
