∙ 12y agoThe men's world record in the 1500 meter breaststroke is not an official event. The longest distance for the breaststroke in competitive swimming is typically 200 meters.
As far as the Olympics go Victor Davis has won 4 medals, the most of any Canadian swimmer. He won gold in the 100 meter breaststroke, setting a world record, and silver in the 200 meter breaststroke and 4x100 meter medley relay at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles and silver in 4x100 meter medley relay at the 1988 Games in Seoul. George Hodgson won gold in 400 meter freestyle and 1500 meter freestyle at the 1912 Games in Stockholm, setting a world record in the 1500 meters. Mark Tewksbury won gold in the 100 meter backstroke at the 1992 Games in Barcelona. Anne Ottenbrite won gold in 200 meter breaststroke, silver in 100 meter breaststroke, and bronze in 4x100 meter medley relay at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles.
Of the 13 men's swimming events at the 1976 Summer Games in Montreal, new world records were set in 12 of them: 100 meter freestyle, 200 meter freestyle, 400 meter freestyle, 1500 meter freestyle, 4x200 meter freestyle relay, 100 meter breaststroke, 200 meter breaststroke, 200 meter butterfly, 100 meter backstroke, 200 meter backstroke, 400 meter individual medley, 4x100 meter medley relay. The only event where a world record was not set was the 100 meter butterfly.
The current world record for women is held by Kate Zeigler of the United States with a time of 15:42.54.

At the 2001 World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan Hackett finished the 1500 meter in 14:34.5; smashing the previous world record. This was 2 1/2 months after his 21st birthday.

Jack Lovelock received the gold medal competing for New Zealand and setting a new world record running the 1500 meter race.
Walker held the world record in the mile run (3:49.4) from August 12, 1975 to July 17, 1979. He also held the world record in the 2000 meter run (4:51.4) from June 30, 1976 through August 4, 1985. He also held the world record in the indoor 1500 meter run (3:37.4). He still holds the New Zealand national record for the mile run (3:49.08).
