Trains appeared in the Victorian Era, and these amazing vehicles were an extension of technology that had finally reached a point where advances in materials and applied physics caught up with the ideas of man. We see that the application of steam power, which was known to ancients, and metals and other materials were developed to the point where they could be applied to the manufacture of steel rails and of locomotives.

It took little imagination to see that the train would allow the movement of goods and of people on a large scale, and with lower costs and less overall effort than the means of transportation at the time. It would be faster, safer and more comfortable to ride on a train than to travel in other ways used in the period. Services could be provided and money could be made with the right investment. The train had to appear.
