Today, diesels are by far the most common type of locomotive. Contrary to popular assumption however, the diesel engine does not actually move the train (except on some very small industrial switchers); it is used to run alternators that create electricity to power the electical traction motors on the axles, which are what actually move the locomotive, so technically they should be called diesel-electrics. In Europe and some other parts of the world, electric locomotives (no fuel engine at all) are a bit more common; they receive power usually from overhead wire called a catenary.

Why is that a maglev train is faster than a normal train?

Maglev trains are faster than normal trains because they use magnetic levitation to reduce friction between the train and the tracks, allowing them to reach higher speeds. Additionally, maglev trains do not have wheels, which eliminates the rolling resistance experienced by traditional trains on tracks.

Can gas turbine engine be used in trains?

Gas turbine engine deals with high temperature and pressure. So it is difficult to use it. However if certain modifications are done in it , it can probably be used in trains. And if this is done the trains would be very high speed. as it is gasturbine engines which powers aeroplanes
