Routemaster

Yes that is the case A.E.C built the Routemaster and several other D.D. buses. Other companies also built buses on the same design plan such as Daimler. AEC also built trolley buses, trucks and lorries and exported to Asia, India Africa and Australia.

Keith adds. The traditional double decker buses were made by several companies. Around central London, A.E.C. built most of them in varying sizes (slight length and width differences depending on the routes to be used) The most famous is probabbly the Routemaster, built from 1956 to about 1980 it was pretty much a copy of the earlier AEC. (Good website with pics if interested). Daimler and other vehicle manufacturers also built similar looking D.D. buses (check the grilles) for outer London and else. AEC also supplied other parts of the country and overseas such as Asia, India, Australia etc. They also made a range of single deckers, trucks and lorries. A.E.C. as a company is 100 years old this year.
