Greenwich Village (aka "The Village"), as well as the West Village, are serviced by the A-C-E (the blue line), the 1-2-3 (the red line) and the B-D-F-V (the orange line).
On the A, C or E trains, you can get off at 14th Street & 8th Avenue or West 4th Street (the A is express, while the C and E are local, but all three of them stop at both 14th and West 4th).
On the 1, 2, or 3 trains, you can get off at 14th Street and 7th. On the 1 train only, you can get off at Christopher Street-Sheridan Square or West Houston Street. The 2 and 3 are express trains, while the 1 is local.
On the F or V trains, you can get off at 14th Street & 6th Avenue or West 4th Street. On the B or D, you can get off at West 4th Street.
Transferring from other subway lines: you can transfer to the A-C-E or 1-2-3 at Times Square.
From the 4-5-6 (the dark green line): take the 4-5-6 to 42nd Street (Grand Central Station). Then transfer to the S shuttle train (color code grey) west across 42nd Street, from Grand Central (East 42nd) to Times Square (West 42nd). Then transfer at Times Square for the Downtown A-C-E or Downtown 1-2-3.
From the N-R-Q-W (the yellow line): Take the N-R-Q-W to Times Square, then transfer to the Downtown A-C-E or 1-2-3.
