Authoritarian doctorine has determined the Mass Communication pattern for more people over a longer period of time than any other theory.

it was presented by Siebert Peterson and Schuman 1956 under being normative theories of mass communication. there are following points of authoritarian theory which will explain the function of mass media in society.

1) Press is made or placed under the control of government ruler in this system.

2) to prevent the pres form interference the ruler has five the directions to the press for not challenging or criticizing on the government .

3) press works as an instrument to strength the power of the ruler.

4) Media should do nothing that could harm the establishment of the government .

5) media should not project based moral an political values.

6) journalists or other media professionals have no right to stand against the government .

Authoritarians are not necessarily bossy; in fact, they may have a deep-seated yearning to be led, to "follow the leader". They are: * Intolerant * Conventional * Unable to live with ambiguity * Inclined to think in stereotypes * Inclined to follow a strong-willed, intolerant leader. There are also suggestions that they are stuck at the anal stage of developement (if you take Freud seriously). Note that the theory is controversial.
