That's certainly a sexist question. Better at what? Which women are better?
While women are better at some things, men certainly do better at others. IQ tests for example; women tend to do better at the verbal skills while men tend to be good at spatial perception.
If you want to discuss specifics, that could certainly make for some heated conversations.
____
Because. Women have the ability to remember and be in charge of things men can't. Like getting the kids ready for school cleaning, cooking, and working. Women have a lot of responsibilities. They also have to carry a child during pregnancy. A man is usually forgetting things and needing a women in his life to help him. But men are much needed like a women. So when you add it all up men and women are both important but women have are slightly more needed in better in life.
____
It's not even proven that women or men are better in some topics... most differences are socialy imposed. Overall everybody should have learned in life that's important to look at every human individually... that's a sign of respect.
____
Well actually... areas of the brain that deal with verbal skills tend to develop earlier in females, and tend to be a little larger. That was probably associated with the early human way of life; females tended to remain back at the camp/village/cave, and verbal bonding was important. The men would sometimes trek for extended times, searching for game or fighting off neighboring tribes. Having a mental image of the terrain was a benefit, both when devising a battle plan, AND when it was time to find their way home. The differences may not be great, but there are measurable differences in the female and male brains. While there may be some males who have better verbal skills than some females, women TEND to be better than males in that skill. And while there may be SOME females who are better at spacial perception than some males, again, that is a skill in which men tend to excel. I assume that person who wrote the above paragraph and spelled "socially" wrong is male, but then, I could be wrong. A statistical sample of 1 proves nothing.
The question presupposes that men are "better" than women, however "better" is an ambiguous term. Certainly we could say things like "Men have strength" but we cannot say this is true of all men, or that it is "better" than many other traits. Likewise comments like "women get PMS" is absurd reasoning, all humans regardless of gender experience mood changes affected by reproductive hormones, both males and females experience these fluctuations, females often in correlation with their ovulation/menstruation cycle and men often experience mood changes when replenishing sperm "Stocks" (somewhat frequently).
We have nothing to suggest that this is the case for all people and it certainly doesn't bring us closer to deciding if one gender is better than another. Ideas about "maintenance," "pain tolerance," and "run speed" are all affected by societal expectations, vary between individual people and do not, by themselves, qualify for an overall "better."
A good question to ask is "better at what?" and does that kind of "better" override the structural benefits of the alternative? Surely the answer is no, built for different purposes perhaps, but you could not draw from this that one is "better."
So... who is "better?" Honestly, neither. This is another case of the human tendency towards dichotomy. That is, we tend to want to divide the "traits" into two non-overlapping categories, in this case "male" and "female." We assign (percieved) characteristics to each group. Unfortunatly power imbalances between the groups can lead to negative traits being assigned more readily to the less-powerful. Furthermore traits of the less-powerful group that are not "negative" may be percieved to be negative. This is called class polarisation. In the case of the male-female "which is better" debate, these polarisations cloud our judgment and do not help produce a realistic conclusion.
for example:
Strength - Weakness
Aggressive - Submissive
To fully understand this you need to take an appropriately critical viewpoint of your current gender expectations, in particular to question their foundations.
In truth individuals are androgynous, that is that they have a fairly even mixture of traits and mental attributes from the two artificial categories. More or less our "tendacy" is incorrect and leads to questions like "why are men better than women."
The physical difference between genders are perhaps the largest true differences. However, despite these differences it is still difficult to define one as "better." It could be just as easily said that women are more physically flexible than men, often have better fine motor skills and have a longer lifespan (often with fewer health issues). Of course, these do not apply to every women and only represent a slight tendency in the direction of being "better" in those areas. Yet again, we are no closer to defining who is "better" for it seems individuals have a mix of traits and even for those traits which do have a gender correlation, it is a tenuous link and no one trait is vastly superior to another.
So the final answer is that men are not "better" than women and likewise women are not "better" than men. There are some patterns of trait strengths in the genders, however they are complimentary, have very little real affect on modern life and one cannot be said to be "better" than another...it is subjective.
You could ask "why is it better to be a man" or "why is it better to be a women" The answers are of course subjective opinions and not "fact" but it can be a fun topic to mess around with.
That is a ridiculous question. Yes men may have some physical advantages over women in general but women have advangtages over men too. Neither sex it better than the other.
You also fail to mention that until the 20th century, the most common cause of death for women was CHILDBIRTH. Only advanced medical technology (designed by men!) made childbirth a relatively safe process. What does this tell you? Well, the purpose of the female body is to bear children, and fulfilling that purpose is the leading killer of pre-industrial women!
Finally, one thing that can't be disputed is that men are much better at wielding political power. Which sex is dominant? Men. Women couldn't vote until 1920 in the US, when men GAVE them the vote. (I have never felt much gratitude for this kind gesture--there is always a sense of entitlement involved when women talk about this--they say that women "fought" for the right to vote, but fail to mention that women did not wrest this privilege out of the strong hands of the male power structure--no, men kindly GAVE it to them. You're welcome.) Anthropology tells s that cross-culturally, every society on earth is dominated by males, and female subjugation is the rule. I ask you, if women "are definitely better than men," then why don't they TAKE some power in some society somewhere on earth? Not have it kindly handed to them, but to take it, by force?
Dissenting Opinion:I don't think that's true. Women are definitely better than men. They live much longer, they are actually smarter than men in most cases, and it's been scientifically proven that men are more deaf, colorblind, and likely to get shot by lightning bolts. Men also have higher tempers which cause them to do stupid, rash things. This makes them weak. In my opinion men are a weak, closed-minded species.Women are better than men.
Most men are chauvinistic and therefore think that they are better than the women.
honest speaking, men can drive better then women.
Hell yea you bet. Men are better at anything!
Yes men are better this is because men are naturally better at everything when compared to women
Yes, men cope better with dehydration as compared to women.
yes
No men are more short tempered and willful than women
what, women are better achievers since when, from what I have experianced in my life they just take from men!
Nope, quite the opposite. Men generally have better aim than women. This is why back in days of yore, the men would do the hunting. For some strange reason, women have more trouble aiming than men.
all men and women are created equal...but women are sexy(some)
no. it is a scientifficaly proven fact that men have more sensitive noses and can smell things before and better than women can.
