As Massachusetts is a state (and before the US existed a colony) it never had a mayor, but it did have a governor. It's first Governors were Matthew Craddock, of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and John Carver or the Plymouth Colony (Carver came nine years before Craddock), both of which made up what is now today the Commonwealth of Massachusetts It's first provincial governor was Sir William Phipps It's first commonwealth (and established state) governor was John Hancock
