Unfortunately this isn't that black and white. Socialism is a socio-economic system of society (in other words, a way for a society to function) in which all voices democratically equal in both the government and the economy.

(Note that there have been many states, such as Stalin's Russia or Mao's China, which have claimed to be socialist but are not. These are definitely bad and not socialist at all. When I refer to socialism here I am referring to the original idea of it only)

I think that socialism is good, but that's just my opinion. Do some research! Avoid the Propaganda, and don't be afraid to look at many different and foreign points of view. Think for yourself

It really depends on you political stance. There are also many types of Socialism, from right to left on the political spectrum*, there is Social Democracy, Democratic, Revisionism, Libertarian, Liberal, Religious Socialism, Green, Market, Agrarian, Syndicalism, Ethical, Guild, Utopian, Scientific, Marxian, and State, after that you get into communism, which is far more extreme.

*All Except Social Democracy and Syndicalism have the word socialism after them.

This is not a difficult question.

What's wrong is not the people of society being less motivated, but the leaders corrupt!

If the 1 ruler rations out all the money, he is unlikely to be right and true.

However, if a group of elected people is in charge, things may be better. I do believe in a type of socialism, but you have to remember, socialism comes in thousands of forms and not all of them bad.

Capitalism has socialist ideas in it with public anything really. And yes, higher taxes aren't pleasant but they allow the government enough money to pay for things like college and healthcare. Making you spend less and nobody poor...

If all goes as planned.

In the end it seems most people think the word socialist is negative and few even understand it. It seems the most that do hate it with a passion. I gather that this is the view that the upper class favors as it keeps more money in their pocket, with no need to feel guilt for hoarding so much money in a world with people starving.

Here is my argument, how does capitalism help the poor? is it working? 95% of the wealth is in the hands of 5% of Americans... some say it is 80% in the top 10%.. Americans are one group of people..., some are smart enough to hire others to work for them. They make their profits on the backs of those people, do they deserve to keep every bit of it?Should they contribute to the good of the group?

The single core difference is, do we let selfishness of the wealthy control the market or do we let govt have control which usually turns into corruptio

It's difficult to claim that any political system is innately "bad," with a few possible exceptions. Socialism is frequently framed as bad due to parallels drawn to Communism and even Fascism, which both have rocky histories. Socialism is also drastically unfavorable among individuals with conservative ideals because it suggests high tax rates. Those on the left support it because they believe those taxes will be offset by the social programs put in place by the government (e.g. health care, free tuition, infrastructure, etc.).

Most fiscal conservatives will argue that socialism is evil because it forces under penalty of law for those who worked hard for their wealth (by providing goods and services that people want) to give it up to the government. In turn the government will use it to subsidize the choices of the poor, which are usually worse for both that person and the economy in general. There are two main moral failures here. The first one is that those who are benefiting financially for make socially beneficial choices are being penalized to help individuals who remain in poverty because they make socially harmful decisions. The second is that the power of the government and the threat of violence are being used to part people from their wealth for the sake of social engineering instead of the key purposes of government (like policing, military, property rights preservation).

Of course, the conservative critique of socialism fails to note that the majority of wealth (and poverty) comes from inheritance and inheritance-derived possibilities, not life decisions and it ignores how the functions of government have functioned over time.

Socialism: a society with no classes, no poverty, no exploitation, no wars, as the resources of the planet belong to everyone. Clearly good, not bad.

When did we as a society stop believing that socialism is bad?

we as a society never did think it was bad after all patriotism and caring about the standard of life in your country is socialism. having to pay taxes to look after roads ans services is socialism. the problem is that the socialism that wasconsidered bad was the govt money that went the way of lower and middle class people rather then into the coffers of the wealthy politicians and their friends. Now that they have buggered up the worlds economy again they stand hat in hand in front of the national treasuries saying please keep is wealthy so that we can keep throwing scraps your way.

Do you think socialism is good or bad for the United States?

Good. Most Americans think that social programs = socialism, which isn't the case, but I'm answering as if it were. Social programs are necessary to undo the destruction of our infrastructure caused by rampant, unchecked capitalists. Actual Socialism would also be good for this country, but because of the effectiveness of anti-Soviet propaganda during the Cold War, the vast majority of American citizens disdain the idea of socialism without even knowing what it is.
