Brand Nationalism is a term coined by Martin Belk at the Prague Writers' Festival 2012, in conversation with Turkish writer Gündüz Vassaf, who asserted that "Nationalism is on its way out around the world." In response, Belk suggested that with the proliferation of cable TV, internet, and other mass media outlets, loyalties, sentiments and acts of patriotic deference will be on behalf of corporate brands, products and trends, hence 'Brand Nationalism'.
