The main drawback is that the band (span, range) of interest rates is the same over a large economic area. Countries that used to have their own currencies and hence interest rates may find this causes difficulties, as they have national governments with differing policies. On the positive side, however, the Euro has greatly reduced transaction costs within the Eurozone and has provided price transparency.
