∙ 10y agoNot going to work. There are lots of Republics, but if the Church is 'ruling' you have either a Kingdom, where the King is annointed by God or you have a Theocracy where Church members hold the power in Government. Neither of those examples is a Republic.

Well, I have been to one (1) Methodist church for a church service, and Methodist church services are held similar to the way that Lutheran church services are held.
The medieval Church was usually quite powerful, and it was often a question of whether the Church would be able to keep its power of the kings and emperors, or whether they would be able to exert power over it. We need a Church so that we can all get together and pray. As God said, "Wherever two or three are gathered in my name, there I shall be. " Church is a place where the Holy Mass is been held every single day. Church is a place of worship for all Christians. The Church has the holy Tabernacle where God resides. A church is needed to exercise local political power and to perpetuate myths that add to that power. These are some reasons as to why we need a Church.

Conciliarism was a reform movement in the 14th-16th-century Catholic Church which held that supreme authority in the Church resided with an Ecumenical council, apart from, or even against, the pope. The movement was largely condemned by the Catholic Church who said that ultimate authority resides in the infallibility of the Magisterium of the Church.
