Well, during the civil war, the confederates (south), thought that all slaves should stay slaves. The unionists thought all slaves should be free. So, therefor the confederates did not like Lincoln for the US president, So they would try to secede from the US and if they would the would call themselves the Confederate States Of America. Lincoln did not want this, so, this is how the civil war started. Till this day, people in some parts of the south still think the way there ancestors did many years ago.
