They shouldn't be allowed to. I think that when they are in fifth grade, they can have a discussion about bedtimes with their parents. Maybe base their bedtimes off of friends bedtimes. And definitely let them have a later bedtime than younger siblings. Just by half an hour or something though. A good bedtime for fifth graders is around 9:00-9:30 on school nights. They could watch tv, play on the computer, read, draw, or just lay in bed before their bedtime so that they are relaxed before they fall asleep.
