So this woman decided that before bed, she would tell him an exciting story with a cliffhanger at the end. The next day, the king realized that he didn't want to kill the woman because he wanted more of the story. So she continued the story the next night, ended it with a cliffhanger, and repeated the process. She did this for an unknown amount of time, though the story is called 1001 Arabian Nights for a reason. What I've just told you in itself was not the book. It was the story that the woman told to her husband.
One Thousand and One Nights (Arabic: كتاب ألف ليلة وليلة - kitāb 'alf layla wa-layla; Persian: هزار و یک شب - Hezār-o yek šab)narrated over a thousand nights by a woman named Scheherazade.
