William Wordsworth felt joy when he saw the daffodils. He felt a unity between himself and the flowers. As he goes further into the poem, even the memory of the daffodils will give him the same pleasure he felt when he first saw them.

The poet could not stand the sight of the daffodils due to the way they fluttered and danced with the waves and consequently outdoing them. However, the poet found the daffodils too splendid to take your eyes off and eventually gazed till he thought of nothing but the daffodils.

At the end of "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud," William Wordsworth comments on the joys of memories recollected in solitude. His heart fills with happiness as he remembers the beauty of the daffodils as they flutter in the spring breeze, as if he himself were dancing with delight. The power of memory, he implies, is that it allows for such re-enactments of spontaneous gaiety.
