Illusion lures Grendel into thinking he is invincible, leading him to let down his guard. Beowulf's words of challenge provoke Grendel's pride and anger, enticing him to attack. In the end, the combination of illusion and words set the stage for Beowulf to overpower and slay Grendel.
The poet describes Grendel as a descendant of Cain, a figure associated with evil in Christian theology. Grendel is depicted as a vicious and bloodthirsty monster who terrorizes Hrothgar's mead hall, capturing and devouring its inhabitants. The poet also uses imagery of darkness, death, and violence to emphasize Grendel's malevolent nature.

"Grendel" by John Gardner is an interesting mirror image of the Beowulf saga. In Grendel's own words "Poor Grendel's had an accident... So may you all," he describes the causality of the universe (that life is random and pointless). When all is said all of Beowulf's fame is due to an accident. Grendel's death is due to the single event that he slips on the blood of one of his victims, and his fall allows Beowulf to wrestle Grendel to the ground (and rip off his arm). While Grendel (the monster) bases his life in reality, humanity ses the accidents and randomness of confirmation of a higher purpose and the control of humanity over chance events.

Beowulf waits for Grendel to attack the mead hall, then surprises him by grappling him with great strength. When Grendel tries to escape, Beowulf tears off his arm, causing the monster to flee back to its lair where it later dies from its wounds.
It is impossible to understand your question as stated. "Physiological" has to do with the natural functions of the healthy body. So it is not possible to make any sense out of "physiological illusion." Perhaps you could put your question in different words.
