Chile has the great advantage of having similar climate to that of parts of California. The land between the mountain ranges and the sea is a great area for growing a wide variety of crops. This in addition to being located in the Southern Hemisphere allow Chile to have the exact opposite growing season to California so that during the winter months many of their exports of agriculture end up coming to the United States. Their top crops are grapes, apples, pears, onions, wheat, corn, oats, peaches, garlic, asparagus, beans, beef, poultry, wool, fish, timber, etc. Because of the mountain ranges and their strict customs policies Chile has been able to keep many pests and diseases out of their area and exports.
