Until it dies. Plants that are woody do not have a lifespan as animals do, they are either healthy and growing, or not. Rose plants have lived for hundreds of years in some cases. Garden roses that are grafted hybrids, however, are weaker. The wood of the graft and the root stock do not grow at the same rate, and that will eventually cause problems so that the top part may die leaving the root stock to make its type of plant.

Roses can last several days if they are fresh to begin with. Cut the end of the stalks off with a sharp knife at an angle and then press the ends hard to bruise them. They don't like being in direct sunshine. Make sure no leaves are under the water to cause contamination. A spoonful of lemonade in the water is sometimes advised to perk them up.

It depends on how well you take care of it. It also depends on where you live and what type of rose it is.
