Because 'photo' means 'sunlight'. So photosynthesis means "Formation of energy through sunlight including nutrients from the soil and water".

Photosynthesis is the process by which plants use Solar Energy to produce glucose, which is then used to produce ATP. Glucose is produced in the light reactions, whereas ATP is produced during the Calvin-Benson Cycle AKA the light-independent reactions.

Light.

I know this isn't the question but I will also give a brief description of photosynthesis.

Light from the sun hits the cells of the leaf in a plant, and reacts with the chlorophyll in the chloroplasts (in the cells).

The plant also takes in water from the ground and carbon dioxide from the air.

Then the plant, (using the energy absorbed from the light,) turns the water and carbon dioxide into glucose sugar, and then into starch (The plant uses starch for food).

The plant also produces oxygen as a by-product.

The equation for this is: water + carbon dioxide -----> glucose + oxygen

or 6(H2 O) + 6(C O2) -----> C6 H12 O6 + 6(O2)

6CO+6 H20+ energy(from sunlight)

What is the purpose of photosynthsis?

The purpose of Photosynthesis is to create energy filled molecules that can later be metabolized by the plant.

What is happinging to autothrops and hetetropes during photosynthsis?

During photosynthesis, autotrophs, such as plants, convert light energy into chemical energy (glucose) by the process of photosynthesis. Heterotrophs, such as animals, obtain energy by consuming autotrophs or other heterotrophs that have consumed autotrophs. In this way, photosynthesis provides the energy source for the entire food chain.

What do plants need to under go photosynthsis?

For plants to photosynthesise, they need sunlight, water, co2, nutrients from the soil they then use the suns energy to power the reaction.

Is electricity a clean source of energy?

The term clean source of energy refers to only primary energy sources as wind or solar energy. Electricity, by definition, is not a primary energy source. It is a secondary energy source that is could be produced by a clean energy source as wind or any renewable primary energy source or produced by fossil energy source as oil, natural gas, or coal.
