If I have to divide physics into branches, I'll first divide it into classical and modern physics. Classical physics usually refers to physics before 19th century, they're Newtonian mechanics and Maxwell's electromagnetism.

Modern physics refers to physics invented in the 19th century and beyond with two major areas that have been accepted closely by the community: quantum mechanics and theory of relativity.

There are many other areas beyond the realm of quantum mechanics and relativity such as string theory (an attempt to combine the two) or cosmology.

But there are also areas that do not fall into these categories, such as biophysics or physics of nonlinear systems.

It's hard to classify the different theories that physics has.

Is gemology a branch of physics?

Gemology is not a branch of physics. Gemology is the scientific study of natural and artificial gemstones, including their properties, origins, and classification. Physics is a separate field of science that deals with the study of matter, energy, and the interactions between them.

Are x-rays alpha wave?

Alpha wave has nothing to do with X-rays, or with physics. They are a classification of "brain waves" as seen on EEGs; in the 7-13 Hz region they are only seen when the eyes of the subject are closed. Alpha particles are in the domain of physics; not waves or rays, but the nuclei of helium atoms.
