Lateral forces from water act on the damn. To find a point load on a damn, ypu must find the centre of pressure. How much pressure depends on velocity, flow rate, depth and the specific gravity of the water.

the force is tension because the dam is stuck to something and the water pushes this to make it expand.

The main forces acting on a dam are hydrostatic pressure from the water it is holding back and uplift pressure from groundwater. Additionally, the weight of the dam itself and any seismic or wind forces can also affect its stability. Engineering principles are used to design dams that can withstand these forces and remain safe.

Discuss various forces which act on an arch dams?

Water pressure is one force that acts heavily on an arch dam. The beauty of an arch dam, however, is that all of the forces acting on the dam only serve to press against the arch, forcing the arch itself to accept this force in a way that only fortifies the arch.

How is the aswan dam and the three gorges dam the same?

hardness natural forces to produce energy (i just did this one in Castlelearning)

What do electric forces act between?

Electrical forces act between separated charges.

What are the names of the forces that are push forces?

The two types of push forces are tension and compression. Tension forces act to pull an object outward, while compression forces act to push an object inward.

What forces act upon arch bridges?

Tension and compression are the two forces that act upon a bridge.

What famous dam is named after president Hoover?

When the dam was in its planning stages, in 1930, Herbert Hoover was President. It was then in 1930 that Secretary Ickes stated publicly that Hoover Dam was to be built, noting that naming a dam after a president was appropriate. In 1933, when Hoover was not re-elected, the name was reverted to Boulder Dam. It remained Bould Dam until 1947, when an act of Congress officially re-named the dam Hoover Dam.

True or false forces aways act alone?

No,it is balanced forces

What two forces act in the same direction?

The forces add together.

Which forces act listo in a horizontal direction?

In a horizontal direction, forces such as friction, tension in a string, and applied forces can act on an object. These forces can cause motion or resist motion depending on their magnitudes and directions.

When two force act in the same directino they are?

When two forces act in the same direction, they will combine to produce a resulting force equal to the sum of the individual forces. This combined force will act in the same direction as the individual forces.

What type of water is behind a dam?

Behind a dam, the water is typically a reservoir or a man-made lake. This water is stored by the dam and is usually calm, still, and largely unaffected by natural forces such as tides or currents.
