Then at the end of the nerve, the synapses releases chemicals that carry the energy to the next nerve cell, which changes it back to electrical energy by ions created to create an electrical potential nerve cell. This feeds through various components of the optic nerve system including the two nucleates nuclei to the occipital cortex at the back of the brain, and from there to the temporal and the parental lobes of the brain for interpretation of what you are seeing.
