Many claim that Golgotha was on the grounds upon which the Church of the Holy Sepulcher was built. However the Holy Scriptures and the early church father Origen of the third century testify that it was an actual hill which looked like the top of a skull. Golgotha is derived from גלגלתו (gulgaletov) meaning skull. Calvary is the latin used for the top part of the skull. Although there is only one hill which looks like the top part of a skull, still most Christians continue to believe that Golgotha is where Helen and Constantine I claimed it to be, under the Church of the Sepulcher.
